Charles Edward Paul Tungate

March 19, 1944 — December 27, 2023

Charles Edward Paul Tungate, 79, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2023, at home. Born on March 19, 1944, in Ohio. Not much is known about his birth family, but he was surrounded by his chosen family. Throughout his life, he was devoted to those who loved him.

Charlie’s early years laid the foundation for a life characterized by hard work and resilience. He had various occupations over the years, but he had the most stories to tell about his time as a truck driver and a heavy equipment operator. He would work especially hard when he had a Pepsi close by.

The love of his life, Dee Perry, preceded him in death. Their bond was one of true companionship and deep affection, a love that continued to guide Charlie even after her passing. He took such good care of her and endeared himself to her family. The legacy of their love is carried on through their shared family: Donna (Charles) Isaacs, Theresa Borode, Jay (Janette) Perry, James (Becky) Perry, Lynn Parash, Lisa (Jeff) Morrison and stepbrothers Steve and Kevin Litrel.

Uncle Charlie’s many nieces and nephews also held a special place in his life. He always had a joke or story to tell. He was stubborn until the end, but he was dearly loved. Everyone knew Uncle Charlie had to have his Pepsi. During his last days, he was cared for by Darla (Dennis) Fulmer, Linda Isaacs, Shumekia (Tanys) Overstreet, Ciara Justice, and Joey Perry. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Charlie’s interests were varied, but included old cars, playing the lottery, watching old TV shows and movies. He bragged that he never once opened a can of beer. He always had a joke to tell and entertained those around him.

A grave side service will be held at Beech Grove Holiness Cemetery on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 3:00 pm. Charlie’s cremated remains will be buried at Dee’s feet.
