John R. Satek

John R. Satek November 21, 1962 - July 3, 2020 John R. Satek, 57, of Florence, KY, passed away suddenly in his home on July 3, 2020. John was born in Berwyn, Illinois, where he spent his childhood as an active member of Sokol Spirit (formerly Slavsky), participating in gymnastics and volleyball. He met his wife Joy at Northern Illinois University, where they made wonderful life-long friends. They were married in 1987. In 1995 their journey led them to Kentucky, where they raised their two children, Ryan and Kristina. John leaves a lasting legacy as a devoted husband and dedicated father. John’s world revolved around his children. He loved watching them achieve in sports and in school, helping coach their teams and traveling all over the country for volleyball and soccer. His pride in his family was apparent to all who knew him. John was an avid fan of international soccer, Harry Potter (a love he shared with his family), and watching movies. He lived life to the fullest and enjoyed traveling, most recently to Alaska. He loved woodworking, bushcraft, fishing, and the outdoors. He spent many summers with his family camping at Devil’s Lake State Park in Baraboo, Wisconsin. The Faassen Family will be placing a memorial brick at the park in his honor. He is survived by the love of his life, Joy Faassen Satek; his devoted children, Ryan (Alexa) and Kristina; his long-awaited granddaughter Everly; his mother Mary Ann Satek; his siblings, Patricia Satek, Pamela Koning (Dale) and David Satek (Michelle). He was a favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews, and well-loved by other family members. He is welcomed into Heaven by his father, John M. Satek and father-in-law, Anthony Faassen. A Catholic mass will be held at St. Paul Church, 7301 Dixie Highway, Florence, KY, on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at 10:00am. The family will be outside the front of church beginning at 9:00am. Unfortunately, due to Coronavirus restrictions, masks should be worn, social distancing will be required, and no reception will follow. A mass and burial will take place in Illinois in August.
