Joyce Ann Mullen

April 1, 1943 — February 15, 2023

Joyce Ann Mullen (Ostendorf) 79, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2023 surrounded by loved ones. Joyce was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years James Dale Mullen, her parents William and Louis Ostendorf, stepfather Charlie Melton and sister Mary Lou Edwards (Dave). Joyce is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Dale Mullen (Cheryl), Joseph David Mullen (Kathy) and daughter Jacqueline Dawn Mullen-Kaylor (Jeff) and grandchildren Justin Marshall (Sam), Dakota Mullen (Alyssa), Hannah Robison (Allen) and Zachary Carnes (Evanis) along with numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Joyce was born in Norwood, Ohio on April 1, 1943 where she was raised by her mother and father and her aunt until her father passed away in WWII. She left school to work and help her mom pay bills and raise her sister. She worked at the original Frisch’s before moving to Covington in the late 1950’s then getting married and moving to Erlanger in 1963. Joyce was a superstar. She worked at the airport for Sky Chef as a waitress and as a bartender at the River Queen before becoming a supervisor. Joyce was involved with athletics at Lloyd High School where she would become athletic booster president in the 80’s. You didn’t have a banquet that Joyce and her friends didn’t decorate or organize. In 1988 Concessionaire took over Sky Chef and Joyce left to open up airports in New Jersey and Boston before settling in West Palm Beach, Florida in 1989. After she left the airport she went to work for Roadhouse Grill where she ran the training team opening up over 40 restaurants before retiring to move back to Kentucky with her husband in 2003. She later went to work for Walmart and retired in 2019. Joyce never met someone she wouldn’t take care of. Joyce loved shopping and knitting blankets for anyone she knew having a baby. She also loved to travel and spend time with family and friends. Joyce loved animals especially her birds. She was the definition of love and was loved by many and will be missed by all. She will be remembered by us as the greatest wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend ever. God Bless.
