Julian Silas Adkins, 81 of Florence, Kentucky passed away peacefully on Friday, August 24, 2018, in his home in Florence. Julian was born on January 5, 1937, in Newport, Kentucky to the late Reverend James Irwin and the late Josephine Francis Adkins. Julian graduated from Newport High School in 1956. He was a retired locomotive engineer of 35 years on Norfolk Southern Railway. Julian Silas Adkins was a devoted and loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Thelma Ruth Adkins (Lawver) and 7 children: Andria Powell (Stephen) of Gay, Georgia, Carla Kite (Terry) of Hebron, KY, Louella Keller (Joseph) of Burlington, KY, Julian Adkins, Jr. (Stephanie) of Burlington, KY, Asenath Birkhead (Andrew), of Hebron, KY, Carl Adkins of Kathleen, GA, and James Adkins (Gina) of Marietta, GA., 36 grandchildren: Ronald Hirth (Rebecca), Christina Rebennack (the late, Joel) (Brian Jessee), Stephen Powell (Ashley), Angela Smith (Wiliam), Natasha Schaber (Paul), Charles Nixon, Courtney Romanello (Ralph), Colby Kite, Brooke Granacher (Eric), Brittany Mihay (Lee), Grace Keller, Lauren Smith (Jordan), Emily Adkins, Spencer Adkins, Andrew Birkhead (Bethany), Lainey Crouch (Clifton), Cydney Taylor (Samuel), Autumn Taylor (Eden), Katie Leverett, Nicholas Adkins, Hayley Adkins, Zachary Adkins, & Wyatt Adkins, 33 great grandchildren: Briana Hirth, Eli Rebennack, Melanie Rebennack, Arianna Rebennack, Brian Jessee, Gabriele Jesse, Brian Jessee, Jr., Myles Jessee, Maximus Jessee, Matt Nelson, Stephanie Nelson, Zephyr Powell, Gianna Folcarelli, Phoenix Woody, Brianna Schaber, Brooklyn Schaber, Ralph Romanello, Amelia Romanello, Retsen Nixon, Laila Granacher, Ella Granacher, Peyton Granacher, Baby Mihay, Everett Smith, Hazel Smith, Aven Birkhead, Jonah Birkhead, Titus Birkhead, Josephine Crouch, Walter Taylor, Aislin Taylor, Zuri Taylor, and Rosalie Taylor, and 2 great-great Grandchildren: Hayden Nelson, and Kyrie Nelson. He is also survived by his brother, James Hayes Adkins (Ruth) of Fairfield, OH, Sister, Jean Marie Thacker (the late, John) of Chattanooga, TN, and Robert Lee Adkins (the late, June) of Covington, KY and many nieces, nephews and friends. Julian was a member of the Open Door Community Church of God, Erlanger, Kentucky where he was remembered as the Candy Man; Each Sunday after church he would stand at the door as people would leave and hand out candy to children and adults. His last 11 years he attended Community Family Church, Independence, Kentucky. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, and was known on the job as ‘Chet.’ He was an evangelist at heart and loved sharing the love of Jesus. He loved his wife and children and enjoyed traveling and camping with them. He collected die cast cars, vintage Tonka trucks, and coins. He also enjoyed woodworking, building, and remodeling. Visitation & Funeral Services will be held at Christ Chapel Assemblies of God, 3819 Turfway Road, Erlanger, Kentucky. The Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM and the funeral will be Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at 11:00 AM with a pre-service viewing at 10:00 AM. The funeral will be followed by an interment service at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3227 Dixie Highway, Erlanger, KY. Memorial contributions may be directed to Christ’s Chapel Assembly of God, 3819 Turfway, Erlanger, KY 41018. Online condolences may be expressed at www.alliancefuneralhome.net.
