Marlene Herklotz Vossmeyer, 88, Edgewood, KY (formerly of Bellevue) passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Hospice. Marlene was born to Martha and Walter Herklotz. She graduated from Bellevue High School and attended Miller Business School in Cincinnati, OH. She was employed at a private secretary at Proctor and Gamble. Marlene began to date her future husband, Thomas while he was home on leave. They fell in love and were married on November 1, 1952. Two sons later joined their family. Marlene was known for her love of music. After taking piano lessons for 9 years, she accompanied the Bellevue High School Chorus during her junior and senior years of high school. As a child, she played the piano for the Sunday School at the Bellevue Christian Church and later accompanied the Carol Choir at St. John United Church of Christ as well as serving choir director and organist for the Dayton Presbyterian Church. She was a long-time member of the choir at St. John. One of the highlights of her musical career was to play a piano and trumpet duet with her grandson, Brandon. She was a 67-year member of St. John United Church of Christ, where she was actively involved with the Lenten Quiet Hour, the Women’s Guild, the Stewardship and Mission Committee and the Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Marlene will be remembered for her devotion to her family. She was most happy when she was with her family. Her sons, grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchild and her love of her church were her legacy. Marlene enjoyed watching UK basketball and anything musical on television. She was an avid reader and read her Bible daily. She loved to laugh, and her favorite exclamation was “Whoopi!!” Marlene is predeceased by her husband Thomas, her brother-in-law Harry Vossmeyer, sister-in-law Bernie Vossmeyer, sister-in-law Marvel Wolf and brother-in-law John Wolf. She leaves behind to celebrate her life, sons Michael (Kim) Vossmeyer, Philip (Joyce) Vossmeyer, 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Visitation and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. John United Church of Christ Music Program, 520 Fairfield Avenue, Bellevue, KY 41017.
