Michael Anthony Cathers

March 27, 1960 — February 6, 2023

On the 6th of February at 6:08 AM, Michael Anthony Cathers left this life to move onto the next chapter of his life. Sadly Anheuser-Busch stock prices crashed the same day due to the drop in Bud Light sales.

Born Michael Anthony Cathers on March 27th, 1960 to Donald and Florine (Lay) Cathers, his mother convinced him he was her favorite child and he proceeded to test her theory all through his childhood. Mike (Tony to his family) grew up in Corbin, KY and attended school in the area. The Party Life called, I mean college, and off he went to attend Eastern Kentucky University.

During his time at EKU Mike met his first wife, Susan (Rogers) Cathers, and they decided to attempt this thing called life together, producing two wonderful children, Christina Ashley (Luke) Riehemann and Matthew Cathers.

For decades he worked in the service industry and was a slave to the grind at Frisch’s over 20 years and made life-long friendships there. If you address him as “Boss Man” then you are one of those. While he did pretend to love working for Frisch’s his job at Florence Elementary was the highlight of his career. Shout out to “Sunshine” that had to have a hug from Mr. Mike every day!

Let’s talk SPORTS!! Mike ate, breathed, talked, bet, and lived sports. He could recall Dan Marino’s completion number when he played Peewee football but claimed he was unsure of the date of our wedding anniversary. He should have been a sports analyst. His recall and numbers knowledge were so amazing. Mike was a loyal and dedicated University of Kentucky fan, football and basketball. He would defend Coach Cal’s honor by swordfight and leave me to fend for myself. His relationship with the Bengals was a love hate and he truly felt Joe Burrow is the answer. He loved talking to his close friends and his father about the local sports just as much as he loved watching them.

Sports was the one thing that he and I had in common and we could discuss any sport for hours on end but I get to brag that I was the only that actually received a paycheck for working for ESPN. I need you to watch over the best quarterback in the world because I need Josh Allen healthy!!!!

Live everyday to the fullest, live in the moment and take nothing for granted.
