Richard Dunaway

January 17, 1957 — April 2, 2024

Richard Leigh Dunaway, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on April 2, 2024, in Elsmere, Kentucky, at the age of 67. Born on January 17, 1957, in Burbank, California, to Willie and Opal Dunaway, Richard's adventurous spirit and faith-filled heart touched the lives of all who knew him.

Rick’s journey through life was as vibrant and dynamic as the music he loved. After graduating from Deer Park High School in 1976, he embarked on an exciting chapter, traveling with the popular rock bands of the 1970s. His stories from the road were a testament to his adventurous nature and his ability to live life to the fullest.

Eventually, Rick’s path led him to settle down and start a family. He found a new calling at Franklin Electric in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, where he dedicated many years of service. In 2011, he moved to Kentucky and joined the team at Mazak Corporation, where he worked until his well-deserved retirement in 2022.

Rick's love for his family was immense. He was a devoted father to his three daughters, Jami (Brett), Shayla (Kirk), and McKinzy (Brad). His role as a grandfather to Ruby, Tatum, Teegan, Aiden, Elenor, Tenleigh, Carleigh, and Magaly brought him immeasurable joy. He shared with them his zest for life and imparted wisdom that will guide them for years to come.

He is survived by his loving siblings, Billy (Jane) Dunaway, Diana (Leonard) Navarre, and John (Debbie) Dunaway, along with several nieces and nephews who will fondly remember their uncle's warm presence and the laughter he brought to family gatherings.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Opal Dunaway, who instilled in him the values of love and faith that he carried throughout his life.

A man of deep faith, Rick was an active member of Nicholson Christian Church in Independence, Kentucky. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing strength and comfort through all of life's ups and downs. He lived his beliefs through his actions, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a word of encouragement.

He had a unique ability to make everyone around him feel special and valued. His infectious smile and hearty laugh will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him.

Rick's legacy is one of love, adventure, and faith. He lived his life fully, embracing every moment with open arms and leaving behind memories that will be cherished forever. As we say goodbye to Rick, we celebrate the remarkable life he lived and the countless hearts he touched.

Rick's life will be celebrated on Friday, April 19, 2024, 1:00 PM, at Nicholson Christian Church, 1970 Walton Nicholson Pike, Independence, KY 41051. His spirit will live on in the stories shared, the music played, and the love that he gave so freely. Rest in peace, and thank you for the joy you brought into our lives.
