Roberta (Berta) Lynn West

Roberta “Berta” Lynn West was nothing short of a Superhero. She was born in 1955 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

She grew up in a catholic orphanage and had a somewhat rough upbringing. But like always, she rose above.

She went to college at The University of Cincinnati, got her degree in Social Work, and began helping special needs people. She absolutely loved helping others. Whether it be friends, family or at her workplace, she would ALWAYS put others before herself. But raising a child on her own was rough enough so she selflessly quit her career and started working at factories so that she would have time for her son. Her son Jordan was her world. She called him her “Miracle Baby.” There was nothing she would not do for him or for anybody for that matter. No matter what the circumstance, she rose above.

She retired from Meritor Heavy Vehicle Systems in 2018 due to Cancer. But she NEVER let the diagnosis break her spirit. She was given 6 months to live, and she spent everyday enjoying life, making memories, and loving like tomorrow would not come. She made many friends in her lifetime and was always a shoulder to lean on. It has now been 5 years since she was given that 6-month diagnosis. She fought the “Good fight,” and she did it all with zero complaints. She rose above.

In short, Roberta was a warrior, a lover, a friend, a supermom, a Mamaw, and an all-around Angel. Now, she finally gets to be free, to fly, and as always, continues to Rise Above.
