She delighted in remaining close to her high school friends throughout the years, nurturing relationships that spanned decades.

Virginia “Ginny” Lee Salyers (née Pickett), beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, in Erlanger, Kentucky. Born on July 30, 1933, in Covington, KY, she lived a life marked by warmth, generosity, and unwavering faith, forging enduring connections with everyone she met.

Ginny’s journey began in Covington, where she graduated from Holmes High School. Her talent, humor, and spirit were evident to all who knew her, and her high school years were just the beginning of a lifetime dedicated to family, friendship, and service. She delighted in remaining close to her high school friends throughout the years, nurturing relationships that spanned decades.

Early in her career, Ginny worked for the Cincinnati Reds at Crosley Field, at Don Salyers Masonry, and managed Liberty Hill Storage and U-Haul where she lived on premise for over a decade.  All jobs that brought her great joy, always approaching her work with integrity and care.

Ginny’s gentle heart and vibrant personality were celebrated by her loved ones. She was known for being particular, funny, and witty, and she carried a deep generosity within her. An evangelical soul, she shared the word of Jesus wherever she went, leading by example through her kindness and boundless love for others. Her devotion to her bible study group reflected the strength of her faith and her commitment to her community.

Travel was one of Ginny’s passions—especially her cherished her time in Coco Beach in Florida, where she found rest and happiness. She sang joyfully in the Florence Community Chorus and had many fond memories, including houseboat adventures to Lake Cumberland, notably enjoyed with “the t-shirt.” Ginny never passed up a chance to savor a cold Pepsi from Frisch’s and nothing made her happier than a good ice, a simple pleasure that brought her great delight. She had a soft spot for giraffes and the color orange, both emblematic of her vivacious spirit.

Above all, Ginny was dedicated to loving her family and friends. She is survived by her children: William Salyers, Jr.(Christine), Bob Salyers (Sharon), Don Salyers (Lan), and Sharon Ann Zilliox (Ben). Her daughter-in-law Susan Alig (Ed), her sister Paula England, as well as her 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends, all mourn the loss of her loving presence and will cherish her memory always.

She joins in eternal rest her dear husband Bill Salyers, sons Wayne Edward and Wendell Allen, brother Gary Pickett, and her devoted parents Paul and Irma Pickett.

Ginny’s life was a testament to generosity, faith, and humor—a legacy that lives on in the hearts of all who knew her and loved her. Her memory will remain a guiding light, inspiring those she leaves behind to embody the same compassion and joyful spirit she shared so freely.
