William "Stoney" Stone

January 27, 1938 — August 21, 2015

It is my privilege to have William Tracy “Stoney” Stone as a friend. We played golf last Friday with the regular group of duffers. It was the first time I had gotten to play in two years. Nothing changed, Stoney had the lowest score. He was an avid golfer. You could see that he loved the game, but never took it that seriously. I believed he just enjoyed the companionship of playing with his friends. Stoney had several holes in one during his playing days. Most golfers would be happy with one. He enjoyed the golfing environment so much that he worked at Kenton County Golf Course keeping the grass manicured and picking up lost balls. Stoney was born in Irvine, Kentucky on January 27, 1938 to Lonnie and Mima Frances Stone. His brothers Calvin and Danny Stone and his sister Lee passed away some time ago. For the past thirteen years Stoney shared his life with Margie Isaacs at their home in Elsmere. As a younger man he served his country in the Army and after his discharge he was unable to find a job and enlisted in the Air Force. There was nothing that Stoney could not fix. He had a keen mind for solving problems and creating solutions when there seemed no way. Everyone knew Stoney. He was a member of Ralph Fulton VFW Post in Elsmere and American Legion Posts 4 and 20. He was an entertaining storyteller. His quick wit, sometimes sarcastic humor and his ability to tell a joke made it almost impossible to direct your attention elsewhere when he was speaking. When someone would tee off and hit the ball extremely high into the air they would ask if anyone saw where it landed. Stoney would casually reply that “I didn’t, it probably disintegrated during re-entry”. Stoney was very proud of his sons William (Bill), Dry Ridge and Gary, Crittenden. That was easy to see when he spoke of their accomplishments and he enjoyed the time they spent together. His legacy also includes five grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. William Tracy Stone died unexpectedly on Friday August 21, 2015 at 10:15 AM at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Edgewood. He was a partner to Margie, father to Bill and Gary, grandfather, brother, son and friend to many. You will be dearly missed! His family honored his wishes to be cremated and no services are planned at this time.
