Wilma Lee (Ashcraft) Jones, a beloved mother, grandma, great-grandma, and great-great-grandma passed away peacefully on July 11, 2023, in Burlington, Kentucky, having been born on January 2, 1925, in Grant, Kentucky to Raymond and Bessie Ashcraft. Wilma was an extraordinarily beautiful woman whose life was defined by her generosity, kindness, and an unyielding love for her family.
Wilma was known for her warm and loving spirit, which was reflected in all her endeavors. Her interests were diverse and reflected her lively mind and active hands. A talented seamstress, she could often be found sewing intricate patterns and quilts, each stitch made with love and precision. Reading was another of Wilma's passions, with the worlds inside the pages of books offering her endless joy and fascination. Cooking held a special place in Wilma's heart. She was renowned for her delicious dishes, each made with care and shared with family and friends.
Puzzles and word searches were another source of joy for Wilma, her sharp mind always relishing the challenge. Her strong faith was a profound source of strength and guidance throughout her life. Her selfless spirit found expression in her love for taking care of others, always putting the needs of those she loved before her own. In every way, Wilma was a living example of love and generosity.
Wilma was preceded in death by her daughter, Yvonne Stephens; her son, Elbert Lee Slayback; her sons, Tommy Ray and Delbert Slayback, who died in infancy; and her brothers, Ray Ashcraft and Wayne Ashcraft. She is survived by her daughters, Janet Feldhaus, Kathy (Donnie) Webb, Paula (Randy) Coleman; her stepdaughter, Judy Gilardi; her son Keith (Mary) Slayback; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Each of them carries her legacy forward, living examples of her love, her generosity, and her selflessness.
Wilma's life was a tapestry of cherished moments and loving relationships, woven together by her own loving hands. Every stitch represented a kind act, a word of encouragement, a delicious meal made for loved ones, or a comforting blanket quilted for a new baby in the family. Her thread will continue to weave its pattern in the lives of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
In the end, Wilma Lee (Ashcraft) Jones was more than the sum of her interests and her relationships. She was a beacon of love and generosity, a pillar of strength in her faith, and a model of selflessness. Her memory will continue to inspire those who knew her, and her light will continue to shine in the lives of those she loved.
As we say our goodbyes to Wilma, we remember not just the love she gave but the love she inspired, not just the life she lived, but the lives she touched. In celebrating her life, we acknowledge the lasting impact she made on all those lucky enough to have known her. Wilma Lee (Ashcraft) Jones, your life was a gift to us all, and your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
